The work week consists of 40 hours, insuring that the Shrine is open from 9-5, Tuesday through Saturday.                        However; this may vary time to time depending on the needs of the Shrine.

 Job Title               Shrine Docent/Museum Shop Clerk

 Reports to           Operations Manager-Full Charge Bookkeeper

 Description      Full time, 40 hour/week, Tuesday through Saturday.  The position requires an astute, experienced, responsible, and motivated person to open and close the Shrine according to its hours of operation while maintaining the integrity of the facility.  The docent-manager is the Archdiocesan representative within the colonial Spanish Quarter.   He or she presents the history of the Shrine, the glory of God through Orthodoxy, the history of the New Smyrna colonists and Avero House to large groups, families or individuals. 

 

Required Qualifications and Responsibilities

A minimum of two (2) years experience within a retail, church or school setting

• Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to manage multiple, diverse tasks at one time

• Strong organizational skills with outstanding attention to details; excellent conflict resolution skills with a customer friendly approach

• Knowledge of St Augustine, the history of Greek and Minorcan influence in the city of St Augustine and its Colonial Spanish Quarter

• Flexibility in insuring that the safety and cleanliness of the Shrine is maintained

• Good written and verbal communication skills; demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers; to professionally represent the Shrine  to external contacts

• Possess a high degree of proficiency with the point of sale and security systems of the Shrine

• Care for the interior and exterior physical facility of the buildings, chapel and garden of 41 St George Street, including but not limited to the storefront windows and gate

 

Duties Include, but are not limited to the following

• Open and Close of the Shrine as directed (includes learning the lights, video, music, flags, register)

• Insure the upstairs deck and walks have been swept, the grass if need be has been watered, trash has been emptied.

• Insure that register has been tallied, change is sufficient for day, Friday mornings, collect candle and donation monies, register amounts in book and leave with Operations Manager-Full Charge Bookkeeper

• Effectively work with vendors and neighboring companies within the Colonial Spanish Quarter.  Work with Shrine volunteers to witness the Orthodox faith and Greek immigration history to visitors

• Answer phone, take copious messages and share messages with the appropriate people in a timely manner

• Daily record keeping and reconciliation of Gift Shop Book Store (GSBS) proceeds by managing shop inventory, museum pamphlet rack and chapel candles; process all incoming inventory; Confer with Operations Manager for ordering and re-ordering stock

• Perform other duties as assigned for assistance throughout the Shrine

• Answer phone, take copious messages and share messages with the appropriate people in a timely manner

• Remove all trash from premises at the end of the day; perform other duties as assigned for assistance throughout the Shrine

 

In Addition -  A knowledge of Greek and Spanish is helpful but not conditional for employment; faithful with an understanding of Orthodoxy is helpful but not conditional for employment.
